The Robinowitz Education Center is a leader in providing expert, diagnostic evaluations for individuals of all ages with learning differences. Research consistently shows that the sooner learning differences are identified and addressed, the better the chances of overcoming them. Don’t hesitate to call us if your 4-5 year old is showing indicators of a learning disability.

We know that data such as grades given by teachers or online assessments with multiple choice formats do not reliably identify students at risk of learning disorders. We know broad achievement tests used with young students are not sensitive enough to identify gaps with their peers. The evaluations conducted by REC diagnosticians include normed, standardized diagnostic, and comprehensive tests. We do not use disproven methods like the Discrepancy Model to identify individuals with Dyslexia.

Dyslexia Diagnostic Evaluation

Is your child struggling with reading, spelling, recognizing words accurately and fluently? Children with Dyslexia exhibit these language-based difficulties, even with normal or above-average intelligence, and or with considerable critical thinking and reasoning skills.

Testing for dyslexia will identify areas of weakness in reading, such as Phonological Awareness, Decoding, Reading Fluency and Comprehension, and Rapid Naming. The test results will identify strengths and weaknesses that lead to a diagnosis and road map for intervention.

Dyscalculia Diagnostic Evaluation

Does your child have trouble recognizing numbers, learning to count, or recognizing basic patterns? Does your child have trouble remembering numbers (e.g., game scores) or lack a sense of direction? A Dyscalculia Evaluation evaluates a child’s underlying cognitive abilities that impact numerical understanding, mental math and quantitative reasoning. It can identify issues with attention or working memory, which can lead to math difficulties.

Dyscalculia is a learning disability that causes trouble with math. While math anxiety affects math performance and may seem one in the same, it is different from Dyscalculia. Proper testing will identify the learning differences so that specialized instruction is integrated in the child’s educational plan.

Dysgraphia Evaluation

A formalized handwriting, spelling and written language assessment is warranted when your child struggles to put words on the page. An evaluation of Dysgraphia assesses legibility of letter formation, rate of forming letters, knowledge and application of English orthography. The examiner(s) will collect information about whether the child experiences delays in graphomotor planning, orthographic awareness, and/or rapid automatic naming. This specialized testing helps assess the extent to which your child can integrate their visual and motor skills, which is necessary for writing.

Full Psychological/Educational Evaluation

At times in their academic studies, even the brightest of students may show signs of struggling with skills such as decoding, encoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, math calculation, problem solving, or written expression. If these struggles become more consistent or there becomes a widening gap between grade level expectations and a child’s performance in school, it is always wise to seek an objective assessment of their abilities and academic skills.

Our Full Educational-Psychological Evaluation collects comprehensive data on both the student's learning experience and cognitive ability to fully assess how a child thinks. These evaluations may enable a student and his family to find solutions to remediating learning difficulties and applying appropriate accommodations that will enable success in learning, whether a student is in Kindergarten or entering college.

Comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluation

A speech and language evaluation is an assessment to identify if there is a speech and language disorder that is impacting communication in school, at home, or in the community. Children with communication disorders can have difficulty expressing or understanding language which can impact their social and academic success.

The areas assessed may include receptive language, expressive language, speech production, and pragmatic language. Executive functioning, phonological processing, written expression, social communication, and reading comprehension may also be explored as needed.

Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluation

An occupational therapy evaluation assesses the student's abilities related to their occupations (ie, the everyday activities that people do as individuals, in families, and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life).

The evaluation process is focused on finding out what the student wants and needs to do; determining what the student can do and has done; and identifying supports and barriers to health, well-being, and participation. It may include areas of evaluation such as activities of daily living (ADLs), education, play, social participation, routines/roles, executive functions, gross/fine motor skills, and sensory processing/regulation skills.

Assistive Technology Evaluation

An assistive technology evaluation is a collaborative and functional process that looks at a student's needs, knowledge, skills, abilities and contexts for assistive technology. The evaluation can determine what technology tools and services help a student engage with, participate in, and access their academics/education.

Through assessment, clinical observation, and prior reports, information is gathered and analyzed in order to make recommendations and implementation plan for assistive technology. The evaluation process is focused on the SETT framework (Student, Environment, Tasks, Tools). Recommendations for specific products, services, devices and/or tools may be provided in order to assist in IEP planning, and the implementation of the assistive technology.

Consultation | School Observation |Records Review

We provide consultations for families, as well as school districts. Often parents need help navigating their child’s unique learning needs. Our consultants review records, recommend interventions, and advise families collaboratively to find the best path forward. Often recommendations may be made concerning the child’s educational program, which may include observing a child in their classroom.

In addition, our certified learning disability consultants can provide consultation to school administrators at public and independent schools who are looking for appropriate interventions for students who have exhibited learning challenges.
